Mogilev to host M@rt.kontakt theater forum

18 January 2013
MOGILEV, 18 January (BelTA) – Theaters from eight countries will bring their plays to the 8th International Youth Theater Forum M@rt.kontakt which is due in Mogilev on 21-27 March, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the forum, Deputy Chairman of the Mogilev Oblast Executive Committee Valery Malashko told a press conference on 17 January. This time Melpomene fans will see fewer plays than usual: just 14. However, the geography of the participants of the forum has considerably widened. Mogilev will welcome guests from Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Armenia, Lithuania, Latvia and Moldova. The majority of them will make a debut at the Mogilev theaters. The organizers have prepared an interesting program filled with experiments in the theater arts. “It is important that the theater festival in Mogilev continues, develops and acquires new forms and traditions. Today this forum takes a decent place in the cultural life both in our country and abroad. Many theaters from CIS and non-CIS states are eager to take part in it,” Valery Malashko said. According to Director of the Mogilev Oblast Drama Theater Andrei Novikov, the format and concept of the forum have almost remained unchanged. “At the same time we understand it is high time the organization of the festival was altered, improved. We have opened a forum at the official website of the drama theater to discuss the prospects of M@rt.kontakt development. I hope some of the creative ideas of Mogilev residents will be brought to life in the near future,” he said. Among the key novelties of this year will be an open-air theater from Poznan, Poland. It will be an impressive show: plenty of light, music, special effects. Admission will be free. This year the forum will present a lot of new works of young producers and actors. In particular, the Mogilev Oblast Drama Theater will present a new large-scale play by Grigory Gorin “Fool Balakirev, or the Palace Comedy”. The program of the forum will make an emphasis on its information and educational components. It will comprise daily press conferences with the participation of the jury and critics, master classes. The major goal of the Workshop of Young Directing is to attract young talented directors of Belarus and other countries for further cooperation with the theater. The jury will comprise representatives from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Poland, Germany and Lithuania. A roundtable Modern Dramaturgy: Through the Eyes of a Young Director will take place as part of the forum. The program will also include various exhibitions.
