A collection of samovars, an antique gramophone - what rarities are there in one of the best school museums in the Mogilev region

Dozens of pot-bellied samovars with stamps and medals, coal irons, kerosene lamps... Most of these exhibits, presented in the local history department of the museum of the Dashkovskaya secondary school in the Mogilev region, are about a hundred years old.

- He started with them. And the museum was founded in 1980 by a history teacher, a participant in the Great Patriotic War, Vasily Martynkov,  - clarifies the current director of the school museum of local history, also teaching history at the school, Sergei Lugovoy. -  There is also an old gramophone in the collection. Once the noblemen Zhukovsky lived in our settlement, their estate has been preserved to this day. The gramophone belonged to the great-great-grandson of the first owner of the estate, Vitold Zhukovsky. The last representative of a noble family left here in the early 1900s. The gramophone was taken away by a villager from the village of Stayki, near Dashkovka, who at one time was a servant of the Zhukovskys. Many years later, the compatriot handed over the rarity to the school museum.

The museum in Dashkovka is one of the best school museums in the Mogilev region. There are more than 4.5 thousand exhibits in its funds. There are several sections here, they are devoted to the history of the settlement, the war of 1812, collectivization, the Great Patriotic War, outstanding fellow countrymen who glorified this region.

- Our task is to organize museum work in such a way that information about our native land, the heroic past of our fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers contributes to the development of empathy in schoolchildren, identifying themselves with the fate of their ancestors, their people. Participation, empathy, sympathy arouse children's interest in history,  Sergey Lugovoi is convinced. - They themselves conduct excursions around the museum, develop and implement interesting projects. For example, they staged a theatrical performance in which they reflected the entire history of Dashkovka - from its inception to the present day. Under the guidance of mentors, they did a huge job: they read books, studied archives, wrote a script on their basis, created scenery, and selected costumes for performers representing different eras. The performance was seen not only by our countrymen, but also by guests from Minsk, St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad.

In order to show the children not only the museum, the students are developing a quest tour "The History of the Dashkovka Village", which will include the most iconic places of the agricultural town: the Zhukovsky mansion, the Dashkovsky park - a monument of landscape architecture of the 18th century, a stele erected in honor of the soldiers of the 385th Krichev Rifle Division that in 1944 she fought for Dashkovka.

Schoolchildren are also actively conducting search work: they record the memories of witnesses of military events, veterans, they are looking for relatives of the heroes who fought or died on the territory of their village council.
