Belarus, Russia to sign general contract for NPP construction in July

MINSK, 22 June (BelTA) - Belarus and Russia are planning to sign the general contract for the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant in July, First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Vladimir Semashko said in a meeting in the House of Representatives of the National Assembly, BelTA has learnt. “Currently the contract is being finalized to be signed in early July this year. The NPP architectural design will be ready in May next year,” Vladimir Semashko said. Taking into account the time on the examination of the project documentation and receipt of the conclusion and licenses, first concreting works on the first unit foundation will be launched in the fourth quarter of 2013. “The standard construction time is 60 months for the first unit and 78 months for the second one,” Vladimir Semashko said. In his words, Belarus has got down to practical implementation of the NPP construction project. Belarus and Russia signed NPP construction documents and a credit agreement ($10bn soft loan) in late 2011.
