Enthusiast-historian Yaroslava Asiptsova is developing a project for a virtual tour of the Mstislavsky district

11 April 2023

living history

Yaroslava Asiptsova's passion , sphere of professional interests and first place of work coincided perfectly. A year ago, after the Mogilev State University named after. A. A. Kuleshova, the girl was assigned to the Mstislavsky District Historical and Archaeological Museum. The city she came to is a real gift for a historian: more than 50 archeological monuments, three dozen religious sites.

From the center, where there is a monumental arch with the date of the founding of the city and a monument to the book printer Peter Mstislavets, we move to the so-called historical street. The buildings that now house shops are architectural monuments of the 20th century. This place is in the top 5 favorites among tourists, Yaroslav notes:

- The number of guests in Mstislavl is growing, because both Belarusian groups and Russians come - the proximity to the border affects. First of all, tourists are interested in religious monuments: churches, churches, Castle Hill and an archaeological excavation, a donjon tower. They visit the Holy Assumption Monastery in Pustynki (the oldest Orthodox monastery in the Mogilev region), churches in Mazolovo, Bastenovichi, Slavny. Now there is a trend of spiritual revival, people are attracted by religion and faith, their influence on a person. Plus, the historical context - with the help of such objects you can learn more about the area, the country as a whole.

At the distribution, Yaroslav was offered several options for the future place of work: Zhilichi of the Kirov district, Synkovichi of Bobruisk, Korelichi, Novogrudok and Mstislavl. Stopped at the last one.

“For a young professional, this is the perfect place. There is something to look at, something to work with. I got to know the city in 2016 at the branded Knight's Fest. This is a feature of Mstislavl, - Yaroslav notes. - Other areas can take note of this technique, because it contributes to the creation of tourist attraction.

The functionality of a junior researcher is wide: work with the museum funds, and they contain more than two thousand unique exhibits, excursions, field trips. For example, Yaroslava introduced the city to young professionals who had just settled here. Over time, the idea of a tourism project was born.

My area of interest is religious topics. There are many churches, churches, icons, healing springs in the region - all this is of interest. Why shouldn't the museum create a product that brings all these objects together? From a technical point of view, you only need to purchase equipment - special glasses. You put them on - and you see the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, - the guide points to the church, which will become part of the project.

The essence of the idea is to send museum guests on a virtual journey through the city and the region. Text, visual information work on the effect of presence. The sounds of bells, the speech of the priest intensify this feeling. The project is at the stage of collecting the necessary material: literature for digitization, photos and videos. Yaroslava plans to promote it on various platforms, including presenting it at the 100 Ideas for Belarus contest. I'm sure you might be interested in:

– When you enter an ancient temple, you imagine: in addition to you, for so many centuries a huge number of people visited it, many events unfolded around it! Each of these monuments has its own fate. Some have come down to us almost intact. The church is not only a building in which they pray, it is a historical, cultural object that allows you to better understand the country.

Another area that the junior researcher is interested in is archeology. And Mstislavl with its famous Castle Hill, where reconstruction will soon begin, are great for in-depth study of the subject. In total, there are 54 archeological objects in the region, a young specialist in memory names their exact number. Over the past year, Yaroslava, in close conjunction with the district authorities, compiled passports for all the historical and cultural values of the district:

— The Mstislav region has a unique archaeological potential and is rich in historical events. In addition to birch bark letters, one of which Igor Marzalyuk found in 2015 and donated to our museum, you can find other valuable artifacts. This will attract even more visitors to the area. And it's not so much about the monetization of the tourist industry, but about the popularization of our identity.

REFERENCE

In 2022, about 20 thousand tourists visited the Mstislavsky district. The district presents agro-ecotourism, cultural, educational, event, ecological, hunting, gastronomic types of tourism. More than 20 routes have been developed.
