Lukashenko: CSTO should strengthen its status in international system of checks and balances

18 May 2022

The CSTO should strengthen its status in the international system of checks and balances, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at the summit of the Collective Security Treaty Organization in Moscow on 16 May, BelTA has learned.

"Everyone understands that the current historical era is coming to an end. There will be no return to the previous order. We must not allow a new international architecture to be created without us. The West has started talking about it. I believe that the CSTO should firmly strengthen its status in the international system of checks and balances," the head of state said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed that the organization has a powerful collective potential for further progressive development. "But how effectively it will use it and whether it will continue to exist in the next 10, 20 or 30 years depends solely on us today," the president said.

Belarus will take over the chairmanship in the CSTO from Armenia. "In addition to the above promising areas of work, we are already seriously thinking about new proposals to develop our organization. They will be communicated to you soon. We count on the maximum support and constructive work of all of you, dear colleagues. We have no other choice," Aleksandr Lukashenko concluded.
