Mogilev Oblast to overhaul 120,000 square meters of housing in 2012

22 November 2012
MOGILEV, 22 November (BelTA) – Some 120,000 square meters of overhauled housing will have been put into operation in Mogilev Oblast before the end of the year, or 10% more than last year, BelTA learnt from Mr Andrei Kiblov, the deputy chief of the housing and utilities department of the Mogilev Oblast Executive Committee. In January-September the utilities services commissioned 50,000 square meters of overhauled housing. A total of Br120 billion was utilized for these purposes. The bulk of the work will be completed in the fourth quarter of this year. "Every year we try to increase the volumes, to improve the service characteristics of housing and spend less on its service and maintenance. For example, in 2003 we overhauled just 30,000 square meters of housing. In 2011, we did major repairs on 110,000 square meters. Another important result of this work is the significant reduction in complaints from citizens,” Andrei Kiblov said. Today the heaviest investments are put into repairs and replacement of roofs, balconies, engineering networks, thermal modernization of houses and other works. By the end of this year it is planned to use more than Br190 billion for these purposes. According to Andrei Kiblov, overhaul of housing facilities is financed through contributions of citizens and the budget (50% to 50%). Of course, the money is not enough, he said. To reach the necessary volume of major repairs, there is need to overhaul 200,000-250,000 square meters of housing annually. So far public utilities companies add 10% to the volume of work. The new draft of the public utilities development program, which has been sent to the government, suggests increasing the amount of overhaul works. If the document is approved, then in 2015, public utilities services in Mogilev Oblast will be able to overhaul about 250,000 square meters of housing per year.
