More than 2 thousand athletes from 18 countries have been accredited to participate in the II Games of the CIS countries

27 June 2023

More than 2 thousand athletes from 18 countries have officially passed through the accreditation system to participate in the II Games of the CIS countries. This was announced to foreign journalists when visiting the capital's Dynamo stadium by Minister of Sports and Tourism Sergei Kovalchuk.

According to the minister, participation in the Games was confirmed by nine countries participating in the I Games of the CIS countries in Kazan. Additionally, such countries as Mongolia, Vietnam, the United Arab Emirates will be represented - a total of nine other states. “I think there will be much more participating countries. The format of the competition is open. Today we are negotiating, because we counted on the same number of athletes and representatives. There may be more. We need to make a decision and decide who to invite and who, perhaps, to refuse. More than 2,000 athletes from 18 countries have already officially gone through the accreditation system,” Sergey Kovalchuk said.

Today, as the minister noted, the final stage of preparation is underway: restoring order and gloss at facilities, branding. From July 4, exactly one month before, the organizers will enter the active phase. “Representatives of the participating countries are already coming. We had a delegation from Uzbekistan. You have come to us. The opening and closing ceremonies are also being prepared, which will traditionally become a show. This time we have chosen our largest complex, which can accommodate 15.6 thousand people, Minsk-Arena, as the venue for the ceremonies,” Sergey Kovalchuk added.

When asked about the readiness of the Belarusian athletes, the Minister of Sports and Tourism noted that a number of teams of the Belarusian national team are now at training camps, others are at competitions in Russia or Belarus. “Teams of each of the 20 sports are preparing for the Games,” Sergey Kovalchuk assured.

The press tour was organized by the Ministry of Information together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
