Andrey Zablotsky: formation and implementation of state youth policy is carried out through the bodies of student self-government

19 April 2023

The role of student self-government in the formation of personality and the development of leadership skills was discussed today at the Mogilev State Regional Institute for the Development of Education . The event took place within the framework of the I Regional Forum “Local self-government in the Mogilev region: Initiative. Unity. Action. Result”, which takes place on April 18-20 in the Mogilev region. Representatives of executive authorities, deputies of the regional and city Councils of Deputies, members of youth parliaments, heads of institutions of general secondary and secondary specialized education took part in it.

“The leitmotif of our today's meeting is the organization of the activities of student self-government bodies. In the Mogilev region, there are 254 student self-government bodies in the institutions of general secondary education in the form of student councils, councils of elders, high school students, and gymnasium councils. In addition, 56 such formations function in institutions of secondary specialized education, including dormitory councils, - said Andrey Zablotsky , head of the main department for education of the Mogilev Regional Executive Committee . – Students, in accordance with the Education Code, have the opportunity to participate in the management of the educational institutions in which they study. Also, this norm is approved in the local documents of the institutions themselves. And it affects a variety of areas.

Through the bodies of student self-government, the formation and implementation of the state youth policy, the educational process and management activities in the educational institution are carried out. This allows our youth to express themselves, participate in public, political, cultural life both in the regions and in general in the Republic of Belarus.”

In turn, MGOIRO Rector Mikhail Zhudro noted that student self-government is an integral part of the pedagogical process and develops on the basis of social, legal and ethical principles.

“This is a form of organizing the life of a group of students that ensures the development of independence in the adoption and implementation of socially significant goals,” he continued. - It is aimed at instilling discipline and providing a certain freedom of action in making important decisions that directly concern them.

Many teachers note that by participating in the resolution of serious problems within the school, children become more responsible towards themselves. The self-management leader begins to realize responsibility not only for his own actions, but also for the actions of each member of the team. This strengthens the makings of a leader needed in the future.

Also, an important advantage is that such activities unite the team, helping children to combine efforts in achieving a common goal, develop talents. That allows you to prepare children for adult life, where they will have to work in a team, perform professional duties, and interact with other members of society. School self-government is a great opportunity to learn independence, to realize your path in life, it is a preparation for self-realization.

Therefore, in our institution, for many years, it has been paying attention to raising the professional level of teachers in this direction through courses, seminars and other forms.”

The Chairman of the Mogilev City Council of Deputies Maxim Gurin emphasized that a forum of such a format and significance started today for the first time in the Mogilev region. On the day of its official opening, Alleys of Peace and Creation appeared in Mogilev and other cities of the Dnieper region.

“In the thematic sections, we exchange experience in local self-government, discuss the implementation of civil initiatives, interaction with the population, and receive feedback. Today, work was also carried out in sections on student and student self-government,” he shared. - In order to educate a patriot, the formation of his personality must be dealt with from an early age. Therefore, today all our efforts are aimed at working with the younger generation, with those who will develop our state tomorrow. The President of the country constantly speaks about this.

In addition to the youth parliaments under the regional and city councils of deputies, we have created a youth asset of the city - these are guys with an active civic position who are not indifferent to the fate of their city, their region, country. In modern realities, this is of particular relevance. Despite the fact that they seem young, they are quite ready to realize the value of both themselves and their families, and the place where they were born, where they grow up and study, learn about the world and realize their abilities.

As part of the three-day forum, it is planned to hold thematic round tables, dialogue platforms, open lessons, essay competitions, essays, drawings, interactive games, intellectual projects, organize exhibitions, master classes and other events with the invitation of deputies of local Councils of Deputies. The plenary session will conclude its work with the ceremony of awarding the winners of the competition among local governments based on the results of work over the past year and an Internet quiz, as well as the adoption and signing of a resolution following the results of the forum.
