Hungary interested in using Belarus' experience, knowledge of nuclear energy industry

Hungary is interested in using Belarus' experience and knowledge concerning nuclear energy industry. Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Peter Szijjarto mentioned it after a session of the Belarus-Hungary intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation in Budapest on 12 April, BelTA has learned.

Peter Szijjarto remarked that the countries had signed a memorandum of understanding in advancing cooperation in the area of nuclear energy industry. It creates a good foundation for future interaction in this field. Especially since matters of energy security are of paramount importance for Hungary.

The official said: “Safe energy supply of Hungary can be secured in the future only thanks to nuclear energy. Hungary will not allow any sanctions in Europe to affect nuclear energy. The memorandum we've signed on cooperation in nuclear energy is very important because Belarus also uses nuclear energy and is about 7-8 years ahead of us. And we will tap into the accumulated experience and knowledge.”

The Hungarian minister of foreign affairs added: “Let's not forget that regardless of the geopolitical situation nuclear safety is important for everyone. Without nuclear energy it is impossible to accomplish global climate goals. This is why Belarus-Hungary cooperation in nuclear energy will help us secure energy supply of our country.”
